The chief benefit of the notepad to marketers, apart from taking down important details, is the branding real estate and frequent use. Through their continued use, notepads will allow you to achieve the kind of frequency that builds brand awareness and top of mind recognition. Therefore two things to bear in mind when designing your notepads is utility and branding. The utility can be optimised by having an understanding of the target market you will give these to. Are you a pharmaceutical company? Then make it a prescription pad. Artists and designers will appreciate notepads without lines; while accountants, bankers and investment managers might prefer lines and even grids.
You branding options are the inclusion of your logo, slogan and contact details. Make these clearly visible without overcomplicating your design. You can even incorporate a watermark.
For the best results, use professional design software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator. Also, ensure that your closed artwork file respects all the items on the checklist for closing Your artwork. If you are not comfortable with the respective design software, we recommend you employ the services of a design professional. This is crucial, as a poor design can, in fact, harm your overall impact of your brand.

Why do the colours on my notebook look different to what I had on my computer?
We have a post on this on our blog. In brief, there are two alternatives when choosing colours for print: RGB or CMYK. RGB is the color spectrum used for images on screens only. CMYK, on the other hand, is the one used for printing. In other words, setting up the artwork in CMYK – also referred to as “four-color printing” – is vital. An artwork set up in RGB may, in fact, cause color variations and thus suboptimal outcomes.
Do your notepads come with covers?

The history of the notepad is the famous archetypal story of the innovative entrepreneur. Legend has it that a man by the name of Thomas W. Holley of Holyoke created the first notepad by stitching scraps of paper he collected from factories and then selling the final product on at an affordable price. As with many other printed products, advances in printing and adhesive technology, as well as the popularity of the product, has led to the notepad we know and love today. Other “cousins” to the notepad include the notebook and legal pad. Knowing that this originated from turning waste into profit, makes it one of our favorite and most humble of printed products.
